Three Kenya women have been detained in a Riyadh police station after injuring a Saudi female prison guard.
The three Kenyans
who were being held at a deportation center also known and Tarhil injured the
guard following a riot that broke out at around 2 am on Thursday night.
According to
security officers, the Kenyans instigated others to riot in which the female
prison warden was injured and properties destroyed. This resulted in the prison
officers calling for backup from police forces in order to contain the rioters
from destroying more properties.
The three Kenyans
were then transferred from the deportation center to Al-Sahafa police station
in the capital Riyadh, as police investigated the cause of the riot at the
Tarhil Center. Two of the girls are said to have stirred up 2 previous riots
inside the deportation center and prison guards were able to contain it.Inciting protest or riots is punishable with 10 years jail term and hefty fines according to Saudi laws.
The two girls
identified only as Ivy and Nusra have been at the deportation center after their
employers demanded to be repaid up to 15,000 Saudi Riyal that they incurred in
recruiting them.
Several Kenyans are
being held at various deportation centers and prisons in Saudi Arabia for
crimes such as possession of alcohol, illegal mixing of sexes as well as theft
among other crimes that are punishable by jail terms and lashes.
Over 17 Kenyan women
have been realized since the begging of Ramadhan after Saudi King Salman bin
AbdulAziz offered a royal pardon for prisoners who committed petty crimes.
