KENYA SEEKS CLOSER TIES WITH SAUDI TO FIGHT TERROR


Kenya’s newly appointed Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mohamed Abdi Mohamud has called for closer ties between Kenya and Saudi Arabia to combat terrorism.




Speaking during Kenya’s 51st Jamhuri day celebrations in Saudi capital Riyadh, Amb. Mohamoud said Kenya looks forward to cooperate with Saudi government in fighting terror activities associated with Al Qaeda linked group.

“Saudi Arabia has the best mechanisms in fighting terror and it has been able to stem out radicalization among its youth and that is why Kenya is seeking to work with the Kingdom of Saudi to fight this threat”, he said.

Ambassador Mohamoud added that the war on terror requires cross-border cooperation between nations as well as enhance coordination in the exchange of information and that is the reason Kenya was seeking to work closely with Saudi Arabia.

Commenting on recent decision by Kenya to freeze the recruitment of domestic workers to the Middle East, Mr. Mahmoud said that Kenya was working with Saudi government to come up with draft regulations for improving conditions for Kenyan domestic workers which he said will improve  socio-economic ties between the two nations.

Saudi Arabia’s director of protocols at the Ministry of Interior Ambassador Hussain Salem who conveyed greetings and congratulatory message from Saudi King Abdullah, said that Saudi Arabia was open to collaborate with Kenya in addressing the two countries respective security challenges.


Kenya has been seeking ties with Gulf nations in fighting terrorism after unprecedented waves of terror attacks by Al Shabab that has claimed the lives of many Kenyans.
