Kenya’s new Ambassador to Saudi Arabia has
supported the recent decision by the ministry of labor to suspend the licenses
of recruitment agencies to the Middle East.
Speaking during Kenya’s 51st Jamhuri
day celebrations held in Riyadh, Ambassador Mahmoud said the decision by Labour
Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi was to ensure that there will be no chance for
unscrupulous agents that were endangering the lives innocent Kenyan’s.
Ambassador Mahmoud added that Kenya was working
with Saudi government to come up with draft regulations for improving
conditions for Kenyan domestic workers as well as ways to tackle issues of
mistreatment of domestic workers.
“The time for fake agents is over and we will
ensure no Kenyan will be subjected with to mistreatment or torture”, he said.
The New Ambassador also called on Kenyans
working in the kingdom to respect and adhere to the rules of their host
countries and shun from prostitutions, alcohol and other illegal activities
which carry heavy punishments in the kingdoms laws.
He also urged Kenyans to register themselves
with the embassy in order for the government to be aware of their safety.He
also issued a stern warning to those who take advantage of innocent Kenyans who
run to their helps in times of distress.
Kenyans present during the celebrations held at
Siteen hotel in Riyadh, welcomed the new Ambassador as they promised to work
closely with him and his staff.
