Saudi government is set to announce a second
grace period for illegal expats in the kingdom to correct their statuses.
Sources within the Saudi ministry of interior say
that Deputy Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Naif who is also the Minister of interior
will in the coming few weeks announce the amnesty period though it’s not known
how long the period will be.
In April 2013, the late King Abdullah announced a
grace period of more than 6 months for illegal residents in the kingdom to
rectify their status in which more than 1.5 million expatriates with various violations
left the kingdom while almost 5 million were able to rectify their labor and
residency status. Tens of Thousands of Kenyans working in the Kingdom most of
whom were run-away maids and others work for firms other than their sponsors
also took advantage of the period.
This second grace period is seen as an opportunity
for many undocumented expatriates to save themselves from hefty punishment as
well as detention for breaking Saudi labor laws.
An article about the process of rectifying your
status will be published soon.
