SHUHUDIA: CONNING ON THE RISE

If you are a Kenyan, chances are that you might have been conned atleast once in your life time especially if you have lived in Major cities or even in your village and we all know the pain and shame we feel when we are conned…but what about been conned away from home? It’s devastating!!Isn’t it?

In recent months, there have been claims that the conning game has crossed the borders and moved from the streets of Lithuli and now thriving in Saudi Arabia. Yes!!They are here and there game is at a higher level or international level.  They are not some Indians promising to sell you Canadian Visa, or some Nigerians who want to deposit millions in your name since they are refugees in Ghana..No they are Kenyans who opted to swindling and have made it a livelihood.

Few people have resorted to extorting money from unsuspecting Kenyans instead of working and they’ve made this the only way to sustain themselves.  They normally target innocent ladies in cities such as Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam and they prey on them while lying that they can help them in service such as sending money back home, renting a house, buying stuffs etc.

The conmen and women also engage in theft of properties especially when these innocent ladies are away at work and once they come for their monthly days-off, they find their premises empty and in some cases their house rented to new tenants or  promise to sell them services or stuffs but vanish with their hard earned Riyals. How painful!!

But these are people known by their victims either as friends, or roommates or boyfriends. In one of the recent cases, a young lady left her boyfriend in her house since he was from another city and was on a weekend vacation and decided he should rest at her place while she was at work. The unsuspecting young girl who found “love” in the desert couldn't say NO and she left him in her house but Unknown to her, the “boyfriend” was on transit at her place and was going to Kenya. After 3 weeks she came and found her house emptied, and not even a single pair of shoes left. She inquired from her “boyfriends” who told her he had traveled to Kenya.

Many such cases and even worse go unreported with others giving people money to send home but notice they've fallen into con masters traps. To make it worse some of these con men and women also intimidate their victims, they threaten them with terms such as “I will teach you” a lesson if they try to expose them or that they have connection with the authorities. ..How absurd!

The days of a robber are forty and these con masters should know theirs is about to hit the mark. But everyone has to be careful of such heartless imbeciles who feed their bodies with toxic all in the name of making ends meet. They will target you, use sweets words , You won’t see them coming.  Or rather you will, and you’ll be warmly welcoming them and at the end leave you with a real reason to cry.BE CAREFUL.
