The Kenyan embassy
in Riyadh has urged undocumented Kenyans in Saudi Arabia to take advantage of
the 90 days to leave the kingdom.
Through a circular
released, Kenyans who have overstayed their Umrah and Hajj visas as well as
those in the kingdom illegally have been asked to ensure they have completed
all formalities for their repatriation before the deadline.
“We urge all Kenyans
to adhere to the kingdoms rules and refrain from engaging in acts that will
endanger their legal status in the kingdom,” read the statement.
Kenya’s deputy
ambassador to Saudi Arabia Mr. Ibrahim Khamis Adan said that the embassy has
rolled out elaborate arrangements to assist Kenyans and is closely coordinating
with relevant Saudi authorities for the guidelines and procedures to be able to
assist thousands of Kenyans who are expected to avail of the program.
“Those with valid
passports will be able to undergo the normal procedure’s laid out and those who
don’t possess passports will be issued with emergency certificates to enable
them complete their procedures with the clearing authorities,” said Mr.
Ibrahim.
Mr. Ibrahim also
urged Kenyans not to be tricked by individuals who claim they will rectify
their legal statuses under the current amnesty.
The Kenyan embassy
is optimistic that many Kenyans with majority being house helps who have run
away from their employers will take advantage of the 90 days amnesty and be
able to leave the kingdom without facing any penalties or legal actions.
