COMPANIES START TO HANDOVER PASSPORTS TO EXPATS EMPLOYEES

Various companies in the kingdom have started to handover passports to their employees following a directive by the ministry of labor earlier this month.

Expatriates working for government institutions, large corporations as well as various private companies have received their passports from their HR departments with cautions that they are liable for safety of their passports.

However, expats will not be able to leave the kingdom without an Exit/Re-Entry visa and will have to handover their Iqamas whenever leaving Saudi Arabia.

Under Saudi labor laws, it’s unlawful for employers to keep the passport of their employees but many expats are not aware of such laws and this normally results to conflicts between employer and employee.
