KENYANS STRANDED IN YEMEN

Thousands of Kenyans are stranded in Yemen following a military operation against Houthi militias that was launched by Saudi Arabia.

Kenyans working and living in Sanaa and the port city of Aden are living in fear and with nowhere to run to as the situation in Yemen gets worse. Some Kenyans have since fled to neighboring country of Oman while others tried to flee to Saudi Arabia but couldn’t reach the Saudi border due to military operation on the ground.

The Yemen airspace is now under the control of Saudi forces and has been declared a restricted zone and airports having shutdown making it difficult for people to escape with the only remaining escape roots being through seaports.

According to reports from Yemen, a number Kenyans working with UN and the International Organization for Migration have been airlifted to Djibouti with the Kenyan mission in Riyadh which is accredited to Yemen calling on Kenyans in Yemen to contact the embassy for assistance.

Many countries have begun evacuating their citizens from Yemen with countries such as Pakistan, India and Turkey sending aircraft and ships to rescue their citizens.
